
FUNCTIONAL INTENSIVE PROGRAM (FIPs)
WHAT IS A FUNCTIONAL INTENSIVE PROGRAM (FIPs)?
- A customized program for your child
- High repetitions of movement patterns practiced over a short period of time
- The goal is to retrain the body and brain
- Short-term blocks of therapy
- Can include different disciplines depending on the goal and need of the child - physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language pathology
Who is it for?
- Children ages 0-18
- We are excited to have a fully accessible space that supports all abilities and ages including an adult size change table and mechanical lift!
- Can be beneficial for children with many different diagnosis including cerebral palsy, developmental delays, hypotonia, genetic syndromes and more
- FIPs are a great option to target functional skills!
What to expect?
- Functional Therapy is offering 1 and 2 week FIP blocks this summer! Sessions at Functional Place or in home are available
- Each treatment session will be 1 hour (per discipline)
- 2 treatment sessions can be booked in one day with different disciplines
- A single discipline or multidisciplinary team approach will be used to encourage each child to find their possible!
- We value family/caregiver involvement as part of the team!
- We know the best learning happens when you are having FUN…sessions will include motivating activities and equipment
- We will provide a “FIPs” report that includes activities and ideas that can be continued at home
Who are we?
- We have VERY experienced physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language consultants, and assistants in each discipline
- Our physical therapists have training in different techniques including dynamic movement intervention (DMI), strength and conditioning, body weight supported treadmill training, bike riding and more! We use neurodevelopmental and functional movement approaches
- Our occupational therapists are trained in using a wide range of techniques, equipment and developmental interventions. Our OT’s are trained in physical motor (fine motor) interventions, handwriting programs (i.e. HWT, Printing Like a Pro), sensory management and sensory modalities (i.e. Safe and Sound Protocol), emotional regulation programs (i.e. Zones of Regulation, Alert Program) and feeding interventions (i.e. SOS Approach to Feeding, AEIOU)
- Our speech and language consultants have experience treating children with motor speech disorders including Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Dysarthria, delayed language and communication skills, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) users
- We are passionate about helping kids achieve their goals and find their possible!

- Our physical therapists have over 40+ years of combined pediatric experience combined and have knowledge and specific training in neurodevelopmental techniques, dynamic movement intervention, strength and conditioning, body weight supported treadmill training, bike riding and more!
- Our SLPs (aka Super Loveable People) have extensive knowledge, training, and experience treating children with motor speech disorders including Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Dysarthria, delayed language and communication skills, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) users.
- We are passionate about helping kids achieve their goals and find their possible! Learning happens when children are engaged and having fun, so it is our goal to find what is fun for your child and incorporate it into our sessions.
